RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil —
One of Brazil's last uncontacted Indian tribes has been spotted in the far western Amazon jungle near the Peruvian border, the National Indian Foundation said Thursday. The Indians were sighted in an Ethno-Environmental Protected Area along the Envira River in flights over remote Acre state, said the Brazilian government foundation, known as Funai. Funai said it photographed "strong and healthy" warriors, six huts and a large planted area. But it was not known to which tribe they belonged, the group said.Much like America... turn the page"Four distinct isolated peoples exist in this region, whom we have accompanied for 20 years," Funai expert Jose Carlos Meirelles Junior said in a statement. The tribe sighted recently is one of the last not to be contacted by officials. Funai does not make contact with such Indian tribes and prevents invasions of their land to ensure their autonomy, the foundation said. Survival International said the Indians are in danger from illegal logging in Peru, which is driving tribes over the border and could lead to conflict with the estimated 500 uncontacted Indians now living on the Brazilian side. There are more than 100 uncontacted tribes worldwide, most of them in Brazil and Peru, the group said in a statement. "These pictures are further evidence that uncontacted tribes really do exist," Survival director Stephen Corry said. "The world needs to wake up to this, and ensure that their territory is protected in accordance with international law. Otherwise, they will soon be made extinct."
An Arizona home invasion allegedly orchestrated by Mexican citizens wearing tactical gear sparked fears that members of the Mexican military were involved in a wave of violent crime in the Phoenix area, according to local reports. Police followed the sound of gunshots early Monday morning to the home of 30-year-old Andrew Williams, whose bullet-riddled body was found inside, the Arizona Republic reported. Officers then pursued a report of a suspicious Chevrolet Tahoe in the vehicle and arrested three suspects, all wearing body armor and carrying assault-style rifles. A statement by one of the suspects that he had received prior military training fueled speculation into the fact that they were members of the Mexican military. Phoenix police said Wednesday that none of them were active members. However, in a radio interview this week, Phoenix Law Enforcement Association President Mark Spencer said the men involved were hired by drug cartels to carry out home invasions and assassinations. Spencer added that one of the suspects said they were prepared to ambush officers, but ran out of ammunition. Cops believe three more suspects are still at large. "We have seen an increasing amount of these type of violent crimes in the past five months," Phoenix Police Sgt. Joel Tranter told the Arizona Republic. "We want the public to realize that these types of crimes will not be tolerated in Phoenix."Will truckstops and party row be next?
Mexico is saying that the suspect was released because of an “unspecified technicality.” Border Patrol agents who continue to serve our nation are outraged at Mexico’s action and at our country’s nonchalant response to this outrage. With his wife, children and their suitcases in place, Mr. Sánchez closed the door of his Mesquite apartment for the last time, sat at the wheel of one of the vehicles – his brother drove the other – and hit the road back to his homeland. So ended his decade-long adventure as an illegal Mexican immigrant in the United States.

They have ruined this country and they scamper back like roaches to TacoLand... We are left to try and straighten it out...

Two executives and the corporate owner of 11 northern Nevada McDonald's restaurants pleaded guilty to felony immigration charges and agreed to pay $1 million in fines. Authorities say Mack Associates Inc. employed illegal immigrants at the fast-food restaurants by giving them names and Social Security numbers belonging to others. Nevada U.S. attorney Gregory Brower says the company pleaded guilty Wednesday as a corporation to two felony charges including conspiracy and aiding and abetting. The case stems from the arrests last September of 56 people in Immigrations and Customs Enforcement raids at restaurants in Reno, Sparks and Fernley, and at franchise offices in Reno. Company directors Joe Gillespie of Sparks and former vice president Jimmy Moore pleaded guilty in federal court in Las Vegas to one charge each. About 30 of the illegal workers have returned to their native countries while the rest were allowed to stay in the United States until the case closes. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
